Worcester is the largest county in Massachusetts, encompassing an area of over 1,510 square miles. Due to its size, there were 15 attempts over a period of 140 years to split the county into two smaller areas, each of which were unsuccessful. Today, the county is considered part of the Boston metropolitan area and is home to more than 801,000 residents.
With its expansive size, Worcester County provides something for everyone, from the urban center of Worcester, one of the three largest cities in New England, to the beautiful rural areas of Upton and Winchendon. There are numerous outdoor activities to partake in, including skiing at local mountains during the winter and biking, hiking, or picnicking at one of the many state parks during the warmer months. The living history museum of Old Sturbridge Village provides educational entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, while the DCU Center showcases some of the hottest acts all year long.
