Herreshoff torpedo boats explained

The Herreshoff Marine Museum will continue its annual Carlton Pinheiro Lecture Series Thursday with a presentation on “The Herreshoff Torpedo Boats: Innovation at the Beginning of the Modern U.S. Navy.” Presented by John Palmieri, museum curator, the lecture will provide an overview of the boats’ history, including how they were originally adapted from yacht designs. Palmieri will explain how battles with local Navy inspectors ultimately influenced the Herreshoff’s business and its production of these boats. When: Thursday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m. Where: Herreshoff Marine Museum, 1 Burnside St., Bristol Additional Information: Doors open at 6 p.m. Beverages and light appetizers will be served.
