The Rhode Island College wind ensemble will open its 2012-13 season Friday with a concert entitled “Music From the Heart.” The performance will feature guest conductor William Johnson, who will lead the 55-member ensemble in a piece inspired by Herman Melville’s novel, “Moby Dick.” Francis McBeth’s “Of Sailors and Whales,” consists of five movements based on the book’s characters. Guests can also expect to hear John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and Gustav Holst’s “First Suite for Military Band.” When: Friday, Oct. 5, 8 p.m. Where: Auditorium in Roberts Hall,Rhode Island College, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence Additional Information: Tickets: $10 general public, free for faculty, students, alumni and staff. Discounts available for seniors and non-Rhode Island College students.
